North Group apprentice wins Student Achievement Award

Posted on June 27, 2017

We would like to congratulate Craig Pirie one of our Apprentice Joiners who is currently studying for his SVQ Construction: Carpentry & Joinery Level 3 and was recently awarded the Student Achievement Award 2017 at North East Scotland College.

This is a tremendous achievement for as little over a year ago Craig was admitted to hospital seriously ill with viral meningitis and despite recovering enough to be sent home after a few weeks he relapsed and had to be rushed back into hospital. Upon his recovery Craig had missed several months of college and was receiving additional recuperation therapy to help him back to normality.

A side effect of the meningitis was that Craig now has short-term memory loss, which coupled with his existing dyslexia made catching up at college extremely difficult.

However despite these challenges and due to Craig’s determination to succeed, his constant studying and impeccable ethics, he successfully passed his first year at college. Craig is now on his way to finishing his second year at college and having passed every assessment to date and is on course to complete his course and proceed to his next stage.

We at North are very proud of what Craig has achieved over the last year.
